The Block IO subsystem

Resumo:

The Block layer is the core abstraction for accessing hardware that
operates on fixed-size chunks of data, like hard disks and SSD devices.
Beyond this not-so-simple task, it also comprises several optimizations
to increase IO performance, in particular I/O scheduling and Block
multi-queues, which is essential for emerging high performance
technologies, like NVMe.  In this presentation, we will review the
design choices of the current block layer implementation, and discuss
tools to trace requests and measure performance of real devices.

na Collabora, trabalhando com Filesystems e no subsistema de DRM/KMS.
Previamente, ele trabalhou no time de Device Drivers da IBM, mantendo
dispositivos NVMe e SCSI para a plataforma PowerPC.
